1st of February – 1st day of Spring
In Ireland we celebrate the 1st of February as the first day of Spring. This is because it is halfway between the Winter Solstice (December 21st) and the Spring Equinox (March 21st). The Winter Solstice is the shortest day and the longest night of the year. The Spring Equinox is when the day and the night are of equal length.
If you look in some gardens, you might see the green tips of daffodils starting to come through. Daffodils are always associated with springtime. Baby lambs are also seen in lots of pictures of Spring but we don’t see many of those here in Limerick City 😊
It’s a good feeling to know that we are now in Spring-time and that Winter is over, isn’t it?
Happy 1st of February
